Highlights & Features
Overview
HOPE is a rare example from the limited 12-boat Alerion 26 series, built by Halsey Herreshoff at the historic Herreshoff yard in Bristol, Rhode Island. Based on Nathanael Herreshoff’s original personal daysailer, this updated version blends classic elegance with practical enhancements, including a cozy cuddy cabin, fixed keel, and inboard power.
Her construction showcases quality throughout, with a hand-laid fiberglass hull and deck, rich Philippine mahogany trim, Bruynzeel mahogany plywood bulkheads, and teak accents in the cockpit and cabin sole.
Between 2012 and 2014, HOPE received a comprehensive refit, including fresh paint inside and out, refinished spars, new sails, standing rigging, and updated canvas. Lightly used and stored ashore for several years, she has more recently been professionally maintained and regularly sailed out of Newport.
Now available through a flexible 3-year charter/lease with purchase option, HOPE represents a unique opportunity to own a beautifully executed modern classic.

Overview
HOPE is one of the coveted and limited Alerion 26’ - 12 boat series - executed by Halsey Herreshoff and built at the Herreshoff museum, the site of the famed Herreshoff Shipyard in Bristol, Rhode Island. Originally designed by Nathanial Herreshoff as his personal day-sailor, this version was re-designed by Halsey (his grandson) to include a comfortable cuddy cabin for weekending, a fixed keel for added performance, and an inboard engine. She features a hand-laid fiberglass hull and deck, Philippine mahogany cabin sides and trim, Brunzeel mahogany plywood bulkheads, and Teak cockpit grating and cabin sole.
This particular boat underwent a stem-to-stern refit between 2012 and 2014 that included a complete paint job on the hull, deck, and interior as well as the mast and boom. New sails, standing rigging, canvas cushions, and a cockpit cover were also new at this time. She was intended to be carried aboard a superyacht but was subsequently placed on a trailer and stored ashore for nearly 8 years, and was only dry-sailed a handful of times until acquired by a Yachtsman from Newport, RI. Over the last 3 years, she has been captain maintained and sailed multiple times a week during the summer months until recently being donated to the Maine Maritime Academy.
She is available on very attractive terms through a 3-year Charter/Lease with Purchase Option.
