The Hatteras 50 Convertible blends hot-rod performance, rock-solid construction, and serious fishability.

With a torquey whoosh of prop wash occasioned by a few bumps on the port stick and a couple more on the starboard, our Hatteras 50 Convertible bolted out of her gloomy, tin-roofed slip behind the Hatteras plant in New Bern, North Carolina. Then, with less fanfare than it takes a tarpon to freight-train a live mullet, she made an abrupt right turn into a skimpy tidewater creek that merges with the nearby Neuse River.

Wow! It was tough not to get a little worked up over a 34-ton battlewagon that accelerates like a racehorse clearing the gates at the Kentucky Derby. No back and fill required, and no twin-screw pirouettes, either. Just crank the wheel and you're gone.
